Do You Suffer From Dizziness or Vertigo?

Do you have trouble maintaining your balance? If so, you know that even simple day-to-day tasks can become difficult. In addition to possible personal injury, you worry about embarrassing yourself. Frequent dizziness can often be a neurological concern that requires treatment. At Complete Neurological Care, our team of NYC neurologists and vertigo specialists can address the issue with an array of vertigo treatment options.

What Causes Vertigo and Chronic Dizziness?

Often, persistent issues with balance are the result of inner ear problems, such as a vestibular disease. Problems with your central motor function can also contribute to the problem. A diagnosis allows our vertigo specialists to assess the cause of the problem; from there the doctor can discuss possible vertigo treatment options.

How Will Your Vertigo Doctor Diagnose the Problem

To uncover the cause of your vertigo and dizziness, your doctor may suggest a videonystagmography (VNG) test. The test is in four parts and allows our vertigo specialists to assess possible functional problems of one or both ears:

  • The first part involves following a series of slow and fast-moving and still objects with your eyes
  • The second part involves looking at a single, large moving object
  • The third portion involves the doctor moving your head and neck in certain ways to look for issues with eye movement
  • In the final portion, the doctor stimulates the inner ears one at a time with warm and cold air to make sure they can be stimulated

The vertigo test may take from half an hour to an hour and allows the doctor to diagnose any problems related to either central motor functions or the inner ear. You should contact your insurance provider to see if the test is covered.

Vertigo Treatment Options

There are actually quite a few vertigo treatment options for treating chronic dizziness problems. With vestibular rehabilitation therapy, the doctor uses certain exercises involving the head and neck to re-train the inner ear to function properly. Other vertigo treatment options may include diet changes, medication, and in rare cases, surgery. Vertigo treatment will depend on the patients’ individual health. If you have problems with your balance then please don’t hesitate to contact our team of neurology doctors and vertigo specialists.

See What Our Patients Have To Say…

I have been a patient for about 6months. Dr. Edgar is the best. I used to have Headaches, stress, and dizziness. After getting treatment, I am feeling very well now. Medical Assistants, Feruza and Murodilla are the best. Like Dr. Edgar, they are very professional and very caring. Great personality. Highly recommended!!!

I’ve been coming here for 6 months and I never have been treated this great by any other neurologist. I came in for a second opinion and the doctor did an amazing job and not to mention the care I received at the front desk! I mean WOW a doctor’s office that actually cares and knows what they are doing. Thank you, Cindy and Jaileen at the front! I was treated like an actual human.
